History of the Members Church of God International (MCGI)

The Members Church of God International (MCGI) is a religious organization known for its unwavering dedication to biblical teachings, evangelical missions, and charitable endeavors. Over the decades, it has grown from a small congregation in the Philippines to an internationally recognized Christian group. This video presents a comprehensive history of MCGI, highlighting its founding, growth, leadership, doctrinal evolution, global outreach, and humanitarian contributions.

MCGI traces its origins to the 1930s when Brother Nicolas Perez established the Church of God in Christ Jesus, the Pillar and Ground of Truth. The religious organization was officially registered in 1936 in the Philippines.

Brother Elie Soriano, who joined the church as a young man, became a prominent preacher within the group. Under Perez’s leadership, he acquired extensive knowledge of the Bible and developed a strong reputation for his preaching abilities.

When Nicolas Perez passed away in 1975, a succession crisis ensued. Brother Elie Soriano, seeing the need for continuous and uncompromised biblical teaching, established a new religious group in 1977, called "Members Church of God in Christ Jesus, the Pillar and Ground of Truth." This marked the beginning of what would later become MCGI.

From the late 1970s to the early 2000s, MCGI experienced significant growth. Through relentless evangelization, public debates, and mass media propagation, the group reached a wider audience. Brother Elie Soriano launched a radio program called "Ang Dating Daan" (The Old Path) in 1980, which soon became one of the most influential religious programs in the country.

The success of Ang Dating Daan propelled the church’s expansion across the Philippines. In the 1990s, MCGI established local chapters in various provinces, and by the early 2000s, the group had extended its reach to international audiences. As the church continued to grow, more congregations were established outside the Philippines, particularly in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

By the early 21st century, MCGI had become a globally recognized religious organization. The use of satellite technology allowed the church to broadcast its biblical programs worldwide, making it possible for more people to access its teachings.

Brother Eli Soriano relocated to Brazil in the mid-2000s to further the international expansion of MCGI. The church’s leadership was later shared with Brother Daniel Razon, a key figure in the organization who played a vital role in managing church affairs, organizing humanitarian missions, and maintaining media presence.

Despite facing persecution and challenges, MCGI continued to thrive, opening congregations in more countries and translating its teachings into various languages. The advent of social media and online broadcasting further strengthened the group’s global influence.

MCGI adheres to biblical teachings and emphasizes the importance of following the scriptures as the ultimate authority in faith and practice. The church rejects certain mainstream Christian doctrines, such as the Trinity, and teaches that Jesus Christ is the Son of God but not equal to the Father.

Key beliefs include Strict adherence to biblical commandments, Baptism by immersion, Emphasis on good works and faith, Regular prayer and worship services, Evangelization and public debates and Thanksgiving To God.

MCGI is widely recognized for its humanitarian initiatives, which include:

Medical Missions – Free healthcare services for underprivileged communities.

Feeding Programs – Regular distribution of food to the needy.

Free Store - Offering essential goods at no cost to those in need.

Transient Homes - Providing temporary shelter for the homeless.

and many more...

The organization believes that true Christianity involves both preaching and helping others, reflecting its commitment to faith-driven service.

Like any large religious movement, MCGI has faced challenges, including legal battles, criticisms from other religious groups, and regulatory issues in some countries. Despite this, the church has remained steadfast in its mission and continues to defend its beliefs through biblical discourse.

Today, MCGI stands as one of the most influential religious organizations with Filipino roots. With millions of members worldwide, the church continues to grow through mass media, social outreach, and relentless evangelization.

The future of MCGI looks promising, with its leadership actively working to expand its presence globally, engage in more humanitarian efforts, and utilize technology to spread biblical teachings.

The history of the Members Church of God International is one of faith, perseverance, and dedication to biblical truth. From a small congregation in the Philippines to a worldwide religious movement, MCGI has significantly impacted the lives of its members and the communities it serves. Through continued evangelization and charity, the church remains steadfast in its mission to bring people closer to God through His words.
